With a background encompassing journalism, teaching and local government, Jo brings a breadth of experience to Successful Resumes Botany.
As a manager responsible for recruiting staff in the adult education sector and in local government, many CVs have passed through her hands.
“Sometimes it takes just seconds to give a CV the big red X treatment and consign it to the rubbish bin. I’ve learned what gets the attention of prospective employers and what turns them off,” she says.
After a stint at the New Zealand Herald, Jo travelled to Britain where she worked for a number of newspapers and magazines as a freelance journalist. Retraining as a tutor, she developed her career managing the adult education programme for a college and later for a public library service, while working with IT professionals, administrative staff and senior managers in the public sector.
Now that Jo has returned home she applies her local and overseas experience to produce highly polished, professional-looking CVs for people from all walks of life.
“Many people have excellent sector skills but they don't know how to sell themselves well in writing. I work with people to bring out their best – in clear, succinct and powerful language. Whether you are marketing your skills in New Zealand or abroad, I can help you highlight your key strengths to appeal to prospective employers.”
Jo holds a BA in History, an MA in Education as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.
